Cloud Forecast: What’s in Store for 2013?

eProcurement SaaS - Cloud forecast, what's in store for 2013?Expansion into cloud services has exploded over the last several years, with providers working around the clock to come up with new, innovative ways to apply technology to inefficient processes. Beyond the rapid spread in the U.S., the UK alone reports a 27 percent increase in first time users over the last 18 months, and that rate is accelerating. Meanwhile, Gartner has forecast a 19% increase in cloud spending. A similar expansion has been noted throughout other parts of Europe and some Latin American countries, as well, particularly as governments take the lead in mandating that some services be shifted to the cloud for cost savings and improved efficiency. But what do experts believe is up ahead for the cloud in 2013?

Computerworld recently touched on some of the upcoming trends for the next 12 months, including the increasingly common decision to move solutions off-premise versus the more traditional on-premise deployment. With many businesses working toward reducing costs and tightening budgets, placing the burden of maintenance, equipment costs and IT staffing on the side of the provider allows organizations to more easily meet those goals rather than take on the expense themselves.

Robert Hillard of Deloitte Consulting added, "We can also expect to see very strong enterprise grade services coming out to market. File sharing, document sharing, collaboration will very quickly gain enterprise strength and much greater support within the enterprise traditional governance.”

Additionally, demand for security testing is expected to increase, as is spending on Business-Process-as-a-Service (BPaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). Supply chain management and invoice management solutions, collaborative software, and expense management software are expected to continue to dominate the business process application market as more companies transition to the cloud.
